The chief justice of Islamabad High Court Sardar Mohammad Aslam issued the directives in this connection while hearing the petition filed against the illegal detention of Dr. Aafia Sadiqui.

The petitioner barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffery has pleaded in his petition that Dr. Aafia Sadiqui was illegally taken into custody and shifted to another country which was violation of the fundamental rights. He further pleaded that Dr. Aafia Sadiqui should be brought back to Pakistan.  Source

Talking to media persons at Lahore airport prior to his departure for London this morning, he said it will be a sincere desire of his party that the government completes its five year tenure and promotes good governance. He said this objective can be realized by restoring 1973 constitution and repealing 17th amendment and striking a balance between the president and the Prime Minister. Mian Nawaz Sharif said the charter of democracy provides a clear line of action that can save the country from all wrongs and his party will support the PPP government in every step taken for strengthening democracy in the country.
About judges issue, he said there is no change in the stance of his party. The issue is still alive and PML(N) wants the judiciary to be restored to the position of the 2nd November last.

The three-member bench while hearing the appeals of the federation filed against the verdicts of the Lahore high court has also issued notice to the attorney general and adjourned the hearing till 14th of the next month. As the hearing began, the court was informed that advocates Akram Sheikh and Khawaja Haris who were also counsels in the case could not appear before the court as they were appearing before another bench of the same court for the hearing of another case. Counsel for respondent Khurram Shah, advocate Ahamed Raza Qasuri while giving his arguments said the federation could not file these appeals, as it was not the aggrieved party. He said Sharif brothers were the aggrieved persons but they neither filed any petition nor appeared before the court. Therefore, the relief should not be granted to them.

Addressing state council meeting in Moscow, he said he has summoned meeting to discuss changes in Russia’s foreign and security policy after the conflict in Georgia. Russia has also accused the u.s. Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri, in a statement carried by the state news agency Irna said it is evident that if such a challenge occurs, the fake and artificial regimes will be eliminated before anything. The United States and its staunch ally Israel, accuse Iran of seeking atomic weapons under the guise of a civilian nuclear programme. Iran has vehemently denied the allegations, insisting its nuclear drive is aimed solely at providing electricity for a growing population when its reserves of fossil fuels run out. The united states has never ruled out military action against Iran over its defiance of international demands for an enrichment freeze, but so far is pursuing the diplomatic route with calls for more sanctions. Finance minister Naveed Qamar announced the package during a news briefing in Islamabad. He said that from the first of September, the prices of over 1300 items of daily use will be reduced by five to ten percent. He said under the package, the price of Atta will be 15 rupees per kilogram, Ghee 110 rupees, Sugar 33 rupees, Dal Channa 47 rupees, and Basmati Rice Rs 88 per kilogram at the utility stores across the country. The finance minister said the utility stores will remain open throughout the week during Ramazan-ul Mubarak.
He said mobile utility stores will operate in Balochistan and Sindh to provide relief to the people there. He said the government’s monitoring teams will keep strict watch to ensure that the prices remain stable during the holy month. The finance minister said the government is taking strict action to curb the smuggling of wheat flour and to ensure that these items are sold on uniform prices.

There are more than 100 people on board the plane. The Libyan officials are holding dialogue with the unknown number of hijackers while all passengers remained on board. The hijackers, who are believed to be hard-line Darfur rebel group, have asked for jet fuel in order to fly on to Paris.

The APHC leaders, Shabbir Ahmed Shah And Nayeem Ahmed Khan in their separate statements demanded immediate release of all illegally detained Hurriyet Leaders and activists including the APHC chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani and Muhammad Yasin Malik. They expressed concern over occupation authorities’ denial to disclose whereabouts of the detained leaders. Jammu Hurriyet Leader, Muhammad Sharif Sartaj, The President of Jammu and Kashmir democratic forum, Pandit Bhushan Bazaz and the muslIm action committee Jammu said that India would not succeed in stifling Kashmiris’ voice by such undemocratic tactics. On the other hand, India’s leading peace activists in a joint statement condemned the imposition of curfew and other repressive measures in occupied Kashmir urging India to rein in its paramilitary troopers. Signatories of the statement included Arundhati Roy, Aruna Roy, Anand Chakravarti, Goutam Novlakha, Mahaseweta Devi, Medha Patkar, Nikhil Dey, Prashant Bhushan, sanjay Kak and Uma Chakravarti. Reporters sans frontiers (RSF), an international media watch dog, in a statement issued from its Paris office asked India to put an immediate stop to the censorship and violence against the media persons in occupied Kashmir. The statement said that at least 13 journalists were beaten by Indian police on Sunday in Srinagar. Meanwhile, curfew remained in force in all the ten districts of the Kashmir valley for the third day, today. Indian troops resorted to teargas shelling and gunfire to disperse hundreds of protesters, who defying curfew orders, came to the streets in Achabal, Ganderbal and Magam areas. Complete strike was observed in rajouri, Mandi, Surankote, Doda, Bhaderwah, Mandher, Banihal and Kishtwar against the killing of innocent Kashmiris in troops’ indiscriminate firing, yesterday. The troops desecrated a mosque in Hyderpora area, which triggered forceful protests. Three persons including a woman succumbed to the injuries; they received in troops’ firing in Hajan. The occupation authorities did not allow funeral rites for a youth, martyred in troops’ firing in Hajan and permitted only four persons to take his dead body to graveyard.

Pakistan People’s Party and allies filed 14 nomination papers of Asif Zardari as a candidate for presidential election. The parliamentarians from PPP, MQM, ANP, JUI and other coalition partners have proposed and seconded the name of Asif Ali Zardari for the office of the president. Five nomination papers were filed for PML-N candidate justice [ret] Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui and four for his covering candidate Roedad Khan. Five nominations were filed on behalf of PML-Q candidate Mushahid Hussain Syed. Five independent candidates also filed nomination papers in Islamabad and thirteen in Lahore. In Karachi, nine nomination papers were filed on behalf of Senator Asif Zardari. One form was submitted by, MQM and eight by, PPP and ANP.
In Peshawar, Munir Ahmed Sherazi of Qaumi Ittehad party submitted his nomination paper. No nomination papers were filed in Balochistan. Scrutiny of the papers will be held tomorrow while candidates can withdraw their nomination papers by Saturday and final list of the contesting candidates will be issued on the same day. Polling for the presidential election will be held on the sixth of next month at the joint session of senate and national assembly in Islamabad while provincial assemblies would meet at respective provincial capitals.

However, he said his party’s support for the PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari for the office of President is conditional with restoration of judiciary and abolition of 17th amendment.
Addressing a press conference after meeting with PPP delegation in Lahore he said if seventeenth amendment remains part of the constitution it means that only a non-political and national level leader can be the President of the country with the consensus of all the four provinces. Mian Nawaz Sharif said his party was not taken into confidence while announcing the schedule of President’s election and the decision was taken abruptly.
He said all the powers of Prime Minister as per the constitution of 1973, should remain with the prime minister rather than the President. PML (N) chief said his party wants restoration of judges in the next session of the National Assembly on Monday. He said he wants to remain partner of the coalition government. However all the political partes should respond positively in this regard. Earlier talking to media federal Information Minister Sherry Rehman said she is optimistic that all the parties of coalition will support Senator Asif Zardari’s candidature for the post of President.
