Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said the coalition government is committed to restore supremacy of the parliament, independence of judiciary and media and 1973 constitution in its true shape.

He was talking to a delegation of Balochistan cabinet led by provincial chief minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani in Islamabad.
The Prime Minister said we are not against any individual or personality but want to strike a balance between parliament and the office of the president. He said the people have voted for a change in the system. He said that Balochistan’s development is the top priority of the government. The Prime Minister announced a special grant of six billion rupees for the development projects of Balochistan from his discretionary funds. The delegation also met the PPP co-chairman, Senator Asif Ali Zardari.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiaboa had a meeting in Beijing today.

The two leaders discussed bilateral matters and exchanged views on regional and global issues. The two Prime Minister particularly discussed the multifaceted bilateral relations in economic, trade, investment and defence fields. The Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao thanked Pakistan’s timely support and assistance for the affectees of Sichuan earthquake and the personal interest of Prime Minister Gilani in sending the relief goods. They also discussed ways to further cement the exemplary friendship between Pakistan and China and to further expand bilateral cooperation in various fields.

He was chairing a high level meeting in Islamabad. The Prime Minister was briefed about the latest flood situation, damages caused and relief activities as well as current level of all reservoirs and rivers. The Prime Minister expressed deep grief over the loss of precious lives and instructed the relief commission to assess correct data of damages on priority basis. He directed that the provincial disaster management cells be taken on board and full coordination be developed in order to make relief activities more effective.
Meanwhile 31 more people were killed and a large number of houses were swept away in rains and floods in various parts of the country.

 

The heads of government coalition parties at their meeting in Islamabad agreed that parliament will discuss the formation of a national policy to mobilize public support for greater national consensus on battle against extremism and militancy.

The meeting chaired by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was held to review in detail the security situation in the country particularly in tribal areas, swat and NWFP. The meeting was attended by PPP co-chairman Senator Asif Ali Zardari, JUI Chief Maulana Fazal-Ur-Rehman, ANP President Asfandyar Wali, chief ministers of Punjab and NWFP, NWFP governor Owais Ahmed Ghani, minister for information and broadcasting, Sherry Rehman, adviser on interior Rehman A. Malik and chief of the Army Staff Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kiyani. There was a clear consensus that the situation warrants the evolution of long-term policies across-the-board with the support of all political partners. The meeting noted that the country’s national security and internal stability is paramount and that no one will be allowed to challenge the writ of the state.
To pursue the objective of making the inhabitants of the affected areas into stakeholders for a durable peace, the committee decided to increase investments in education, employment, development and infrastructure.
Briefing newsmen about the decisions of the meeting, federal information and broadcasting minister said it was decided that nobody would be allowed to use Pakistani soil for terrorism nor any foreign forces will be allowed to take action inside Pakistani territory. She said a three-pronged policy will be adopted, which includes is political dialogue, economic development and use of force in case of violation of peace agreement.

He was talking to a delegation from FATA headed by federal minister for environment Hamidullah Jan Afridi in Islamabad. The Prime Minister said the government is evolving a three-pronged strategy to solve the problems of the area through dialogue, economic development and use of force only if the agreement is violated. The Prime Minister said development of the tribal areas is one of the government’s priority list. He announced to give a grant of 10 million rupees to MP’S from FATA to overcome power shortage in the tribal areas. The FATA members will also be included in various standing committees.
Law and order situation in FATA and particularly, development activities were discussed during the meeting.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has reaffirmed his government’s belief in supremacy of law and constitution and all decision of the matters of national interest will be taken in a democratic way through consultations.

Addressing a news conference on his arrival at Lahore airport the Prime Minister said we came into power through the vote of public and we are working in strengthening true democracy in the country. He said Pakistan People’s party has contributed numerous sacrifices for democracy in the country. He said the government is working for restoration 1973 constitution, independence of judiciary and media and for public welfare. On a question about the President’s office he said the impression that PPP and Nawaz Sharif have different points of view of the matter, is totally wrong.
The governments want to take all decisions through parliament.

 

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has directed the ministry of food and agriculture to import additional 2.5 million tons of wheat including the 1.5 million tons already approved by the ECC to meet country’s future requirements.

The Prime Minister said this while chairing a meeting held in Islamabad to review the food situation in the country. He said that food shortage is a global phenomenon whose effects are being felt in every country including Pakistan and the government is taking timely measures for meeting these challenges.    Source:
